Interview with Marc Levy
Marc Levy explains his creative process.
“It’s not good, but what’s important is that you’ve written 350 pages.”
That’s what Marc Levy’s father said to his son, after the latter had him read his first manuscript, when he was just 18.
Marc only listened to the first part of the sentence.
He threw the manuscript in the garbage can and didn’t dare write again for years.
Yet it was the second part of the sentence that was important.
The fact that it wasn’t good wasn’t a problem in itself.
You become good by working.
You rarely get it right the first time.
But to see your manuscript through to the end, that’s a satisfaction that the young Marc Levy didn’t understand until much later.
Everyone wants to write a book, but most people don’t do it.
Why don’t they?
For one simple reason: perfectionism.
It’s the No. 1 reason why people never write their book.
Perfectionism is the budding writer’s main enemy.
Yet the real question to ask is not: will my manuscript be any good?
But rather,
How can I satisfy my desire to write?
The answer is quite simple: with a method that allows you to overcome your writer’s block and build a story that makes sense.
It’s this method that Marc Lévy unveils in his first masterclass.
For over 6 hours, he teaches you how to come up with a good idea, how to overcome the fear of the blank page, how to build believable and engaging characters, how to keep your reader on the edge of his seat.

This highly accessible course takes you step-by-step through all the stages of writing, and encourages you to ask yourself the right questions: why am I writing, what is my story about, what do I really want to tell?
Marc Levy.
At the age of 37, he wrote a story for the man who would become his son… “Et si c’était vrai” (If this was true…), published in 2000 by Éditions Robert Laffont, was an immediate success. Even before this first novel was published, Steven Spielberg acquired the film rights. “Just Like Heaven” topped the U.S. box-office on its release in 2005.
Since then, Marc Levy has written 25 novels, which have topped the annual bestseller lists in France and enjoyed international success. He co-wrote the comic strip “L’Agence des invisibles” (agency of invisibles), with Sylvain Runberg, illustrated by Espé (2021), and adapted his bestseller “Le Voleur d’ombre” with illustrator Fred Bernard (triple Goncourt Jeunesse). He has also written songs for various artists, including Johnny Hallyday.
Several of his novels are currently being adapted for the cinema and TV series.
Translated into 50 languages, his 25 novels have sold over 50 million copies, making Marc Levy the most widely read French author in the world.
